NCAA Eligibility

The National Collegiate Athletic Association governs over 1100 schools in three divisions and sponsors championships in over 20 sports. High school athletes who are being recruited by Division I or Division II colleges must meet the academic eligibility criteria of the NCAA. During senior year of high school the athlete must request that his high school transcript be sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center for evaluation. The Eligibility Center will provide this information to colleges requesting the student's eligibility status. Upon completion of high school the athlete must meet the criteria outlined below to meet NCAA standards.

NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER REGISTRATION

Prospects planning on participating in athletics at NCAA Division I or II institutions must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Prospects must register online at www.eligibilitycenter.org. No hard copies of registration are available.

In addition to providing demographic and academic information, a prospect must answer five questions regarding his amateur status. The questions will relate to athletic participation, prize money earned, expense money received, and any contact they may have had with agents and/or professional teams. This information will be reviewed and the prospect will receive a preliminary amateurism status report (certified, certified with conditions, not certified, or pending).

The registration fee for the clearinghouse is $50.00 for domestic prospects and $75.00 for international students. Paying the fee will enable prospects to receive both an academic eligibility as well as an amateurism certification. Students who received a fee waiver for taking the SAT and/or the ACT are also eligible for a fee waiver for the Eligibility Center.

The NCAA Eligibility Center will NOT accept test results from any source other than the SAT or ACT testing centers. Thus, it is important that when registering for the tests students bubble in 9999 as one of their destinations. Results will then be sent to the NCAA.

Students who have taken the SAT and/or the ACT and did not send their results to the NCAA Eligibility Center should see the Guidance Secretary for a form to have the testing center send their results to the NCAA. (The SAT and ACT charge a nominal fee for having results sent to additional destinations.)
